New study supported by Noscendo on NGS in emergency departments

An interesting study conducted at medius KLINIK Nürtingen was presented in the August issue of the European Journal of Emergency Medicine: “Detection of pathogenic microorganisms using metagenomic next generation sequencing for patients with suspected infection presenting in the emergency department”.

The research explored how metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) can improve the detection of pathogens in patients with suspected infections presenting in the emergency department.

Led by Dr. Torsten H. Schroeder, Mélissa Vanwynsberghe, Albion Dervishi, and Dr. Heiner Stäudle, the study demonstrated that NGS outperformed traditional blood cultures in detecting pathogens, particularly in cases where conventional methods failed. The findings also showed that mNGS results could guide more precise antimicrobial therapy.

The team utilized DISQVER®, Noscendo’s metagenomic diagnostic solution, which analyzes cell-free DNA to identify over 1,500 pathogens within hours, even during ongoing antimicrobial treatment.
